Boxout

Chronological history of female combat before XX century

Hi All
A work colleague just can't get his head around the fact that I do boxing for fitness. He constantly asks questions about it and found this site for me which may be of interest to you women boxers out there and some men too.
I like the quote from 1905:
1905. "It is a good thing for a girl to learn to box," says an article in the beauty column of February 27 issue of the New York Evening World. Why? Because "poise, grace and buoyancy of movement result from this exercise." Techniques that schoolgirls were told to practice with their maids included hooks to the face and solar plexus punches.

Patrick - maybe you should take Boxout around the schools!

Happy reading
Emma

Give the site time Phil, it hasn't even been up a year yet :) I'm sure fellow "Ning" members will add plenty in the coming months..
