Aussie boy Robbie Peden, was not given much chance against the flashy and highly rated American, Nate Campbell. And when Peden was all but dropped with a wincing body shot, the end was near.
Or was it ?
***squeamers alert*** if you don't like seeing fully grown men punch each other, skip this clip..
Wow. When I first saw this fight a few years ago, I marked it down as one of all time favourites. It is so rich with life lessons, among the boxing lessons. Maybe you can see some… Continue

Ever heard of MMA ?
What about Cage Fighting ?
Submission fighting ?
They are more or less the same thing - and it is THE booming area of Martial Arts. Blood thirsty fans are packing into "caged combat" events in the US, Japan - and they are starting to here too.
MMA Pay Per View is going ballistic in the US - even outdoing boxing. It's what kids are playing on Playstation and XBox.
It's a bit like like Rock n Roll wrestling - except it's real. Those small gloves they use, hurt. They keep f… Continue
If you are ever lucky enough to have a coffee with Jo Ragen, you'd better prepare yourself - you may never be the same again. Forget the caffeine high, you're going to be high on life.
When I stepped into the boxing ring with her a couple of weeks ago, she didn't tell me she'd broken 250 bones before the age of 12 , from brittle bone disease. If she had told me, I may have suggested a gentle trip to the park - not 3 rounds of boxing padwork....if you know what I mean.
Jo knew that I'd be hesit… Continue

I'm the first to say it - boxing is brutal.
I'd never suggest for a kid to start a boxing career. Go for golf, or tennis - and hang on to your brain cells.
But there are lessons from the ring: inspiration, strategy, commitment and sheer, unadulterated guts.
Round 9 from Gatti v Ward #1 in 2002 is one the most gutsy sports performances you will ever see. Voted round of the year and fight of the year - what can i say, give it your 3 minutes - and see what courage looks like in a boxing ring.

Fighting Fit Chix is now a boxout group on Facebook. Here's why.....
Since I began teaching martial arts/ boxing so long ago that i cant remember I've learned 3 things about women:
1. Women love to hit stuff... (can someone explain?)
2. Women want to punch correctly (not box-aerobics)
3. Women are mostly better at it than the guys (not "as good as the guys".. but better!)
I have trained some some excellent guys too - but on the whole women have better balance, better technique and pack… Continue

A funny thing happened on the way to the workout. I forgot to go.
I wanted to go.... I planned to go.....I was gonna go....
But I just didn't.
I've done it, you've done it, we've all done it. We just didn't quite get to the workout.
This post is about why some of us get there, and why some of us don't.
The curious thing about sweaty old Boxout is once people actually "get there" - once they show up - they love it. You can see their eyes light up when they plant that cracking left hoo… Continue
Dear Boxers,
(first the war stories, then the love story below)
War in the Boxing Ring- Lessons I learned on Friday Night
Last Friday Night I watched 12 kickboxing/ boxing / mma fights at Manly Leagues club - including about 4 womens fights. Most of the fighters were first timers, including a friend of mine I went to support.
Ok it's not everyone's cup of tea, but it takes Guts Guts and more Guts to get in that ring the first time. These are not Pros - many have only been training for… Continue
GREATEST CORNER SPEECH EVER
The one minute break between the rounds for Pro Boxers is more than just a squirt from a water bottle and an ice pack on the back of the neck. It can be as intense - and as crucial - as the round itself.
It's like a Formula One pit stop. The corner team have to refresh, revive and re motivate the fighter, who may have a broken head and a broken spirit. Expert cut-men perform major repair work, while the head trainer talks tactics.
It all happens in less than… Continue

Fitness Boxing Tips + Combo of the month !What makes a great punch ?
Im sure thats a question that has been keeping you up at night, and distracting you from your work every day. But its worth knowing, because if you punch well you will get dramatically different fitness results. More bang for your buck each and every punch, because your core, your legs and your glutes are engaged.A great punch is when speed and power get together and create magic.
How do you create that magic… Continue

FITNESS BOXING TIP
`When you punch, connect to the centre of the earth´
To double your punching power, engage the legs and have better technique, try this tip `Grip the Ground`as you punch, as though you are 'connecting to the centre of the earth.'
This technique tip has worked for the people I am training people in Berlin right now. Why? Because, to generate power in a punch you must create a `Power Chain´ which starts under the soles of the feet, connects to the legs, the torso, down t… Continue

Bikes, Boxing & Bloody mad football fans
Its week 3 for me in Berlin- and I've just uploaded a few photos. I miss the Saturday morning ritual at Boxout, and wish you all fighting spirit, and a well done for keeping up the training with the two Phils. Heres the words to go with the photos, and complete the Berlin story.
Boxing in Berlin....
Ive already trained a few Germans on the pads, at the local running track. Although they had not done much boxing before (or for a while), they all had… Continue
Front foot ! front foot !
The other day I was in the Boxing ring, holding pads for a 3 minute round, for one of Boxout's many inspiring students. Her (female) friend was yelling out from outside the ropes - front foot ! front foot !
What great spirit, what great support -and what great advice.
Getting on the front foot is one of the many boxing expressions that has made its way into daily life. In boxing its the person who moves forward, who takes it to their opponent who wins the fight - mos… Continue
